How we operate

A conscious journey

Employee safety, operational efficiency, environmental preservation and the quality of the silicon metal produced are the factors that motivate us to maintain control of our production process within the best quality standards in the world.

Manufacturing components

One of LIASA's chief objectives is to deliver a sustainable product of the highest standard, meeting the needs and requirements of the market and our customers.

  • Bioreducer

This involves the use of reducers from renewable sources, such as planted eucalyptus forests, known as "bioreducers," This enables us to produce sustainable, high-quality silicon metal.

  • Quartz

Quartz is one of the world's most abundant ores and a source of silica (SiO²) for the silicon metal production process. There are high-quality deposits near the city of Pirapora.

  • Wood chips

In addition to providing part of the carbon needed to reduce silica, wood chips play an important role in the permeability of the furnace. Our material comes from our own forest reserves and reforestation projects, from which we extract the wood to produce both chips and charcoal.

  • Electricity

Electricity provides the process with the heat necessary for the chemical reactions of reducing quartz by carbon to take place. All the electricity used at LIASA comes from renewable sources.

  • Carbon electrode

In our process, the carbon electrode plays the role of enabling better quality silicon metal.

  • Innovation as a philosophy

We operate at the cutting edge of technology. The proof of this is that, in the course of improving our production process, we have developed unprecedented industrial projects which, to date, have already registered 16 industrial patents in the fields of Processing, Mechanical Engineering and Electricity, filed with the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI).
