The Company
LIASA is a silicon metal producer, with more than 20 industrial patents. LIASA is the Brazilian leader in the production of this metal, with worldwide recognized quality.
LIASA’s plant is located in Pirapora, the State of Minas Gerais. The company owns four furnaces of silicon metal. Approximately 85% of this volume is sold to the international market, mainly Europe, Asia, North America, and the Middle East. The company is a member of the Brazilian Association of Ferroalloys and Silicon Metal Producers (ABRAFE), association which LIASA assisted establishing in 1971.
History
The founder of LIASA, Dr. José Patrus de Sousa, was a civil, mining and metallurgical engineer, professor in the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and a business man. He founded LIASA in 1966 and it was the first plant to produce silicon metal in Latin America and the first plant in the world to develop the technology that uses charcoal as a reductant in its production. In 1980 and in 1988 he built three new furnaces. LIASA is, presently, one of the largest producers of Silicon Metal.
Certifications
In the 1990s, the company improved its processes and obtained the ISO 9001 certification, the most important quality seal required by both national and international markets. Since then, LIASA keeps being sealed annually, demonstrating its commitment to the continuous improvement of its product quality.
LIASA achieved ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Certification in 2022 and this demonstrates its commitment to protecting the environment and aiming for sustainability.
